We know the thing in Hrodulf's basement is Dwemer (we do literally see it) but Hackdirt is almost certainly not Dwemer, being in Cyrodiil. We know the -area- he eventuallly digs into is dwemer. We dont know whether or not that's connected to what he was hearing at all.
